Yesterday with rain pouring down it was the perfect day for an indoor activity so I went for a browse around the Edinburgh College of Art Degree show. If your interested in visiting its on untilthe 23rd of June and is a great way of viewing lots of different types of art work from some very talented students.
Alot of the work from the fashion show is on display and I really loved the way it was all set out. Each designer had a mannequin and the rest of theirwork was on a rail next to it set out just like a shop. I was able to get up close and touch alot of the work that I had admired going down the catwalk. Another delight was the sketch pad that were on show next to the designs, it's really showed how much time and effort was put into creating each piece.
Natalie Morris who's trousers I had admired from a far and wondered what they were made from were hanging there for my closer inspection. Still not sure exactly what the fabric was as I'm no expert but they felt lovely to touch, just as I'd expected. There was also a beautiful little collar there that I'd missed going down the catwalk, it would work with so many things. Again I wish I had some pictures to show you but I left my camera at home and I'm not really sure what their policy would be when it comes to photography.
So apart from the fashion which I have no images of so there doesn't really seem like much point talking about it I particularly liked the jewellery. Jen Brown who's work is in the images above was the highlight for me. The attention to detail, the colours and the way the metals are worked is truly beautiful. Having worked with jewellery myself I can appreciate the skill and patience it must have taken to make these pieces.
If you are in the area please do visit the degree show as much of the work is on sale and you never know what you might come home with. I was tempted by many things but with no where to hang the work (rented flat, no pins or hooks in the wall blandness) I had to leave all the great art for someone else to purchase.
