Last night I caught the first episode of the new series Blood Sweat and T-shirts on BBC 3. Six young fashion lovers have been sent to work in the factories and backstreet workshops of India, making clothes for the British high street.
Watching the programme really made me think about how the clothes that I wear every day are made and how much the people that make them actually earn. It's ridicules that here in the West we spend money on clothes that sometimes we don't even wear. A few years ago everyone was loving throw away fashion I feel now that things are changing, we are starting to be more conscious about what we spend our money on. Maybe it's just the credit crunch but I'd like to believe that the public has become more ethical aware.
The series continues tomorrow night at 8pm.
On another ethical fashion note I've been invited to the press reception of Re-Think Re-Dress, the exhibition I was talking about the other day. I'm looking forward to getting more information on ethical fashion and I'll fill you in with what I learn.
